Julian Zyklus is an Italian, Berlin-based musician, composer and sound designer working at the intersection of acoustic research, electronic music and sound art.
Trained as a pianist from childhood, he later turned to sound engineering and electronic composition, developing over the years a hybrid practice that combines performance, composition and experimentation.
At the heart of his work lies an in-depth research into the piano as both an acoustic and an electronic instrument.
Piano material is expanded and transformed through modular synthesizers and digital processing, always in search of an unconventional path.
His sound moves between classical harmonic structures, experimental textures and advanced sound design.
His work has earned the personal appreciation of Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe.
He has been part of the band …a Toys Orchestra, with whom he has written and produced three studio albums and performed extensively across Europe.
He assisted Grammy-winning engineer Francesco Donadello and now works as assistant to two-time Grammy winner Antonio Pulli at Funkhaus’ Saal 3,
the iconic studio of the acclaimed pianist and composer Nils Frahm.
As a solo artist, he has released one album and two EPs on the Seattle-based label Hush Hush Records, along with an EP on Elli Records. His artistic path includes collaborations with Nada, Hoshiko Yamane (Tangerine Dream), Massimiliano Cerioni, JoyCut, Yes Daddy Yes as well as with visual artists Yoshi Sodeoka, Reinfected Me, Magnificent Matter and Chris Waters, among many others.
